Dessert. Affogato
A recipe for deliciousness from our contributor that loves great food, especially dessert, but admittedly does not cook much these days. EXCEPT for this afternoon indulgence.
1 shot of espresso
2 scoops of vanilla gelato or ice cream
Prepare one shot of espresso per affogato. While it is brewing, scoop 2 scoops of gelato or ice cream into a glass cup for each serving. Glass is best because the melting/blending ice cream and espresso are beautiful!
Pour the espresso over the ice cream and voilà. You too might like to have one of these every afternoon.
Optional ingredients: your favorite flavor ice cream, shown above is salted caramel. Vanilla, chocolate, coffee, dulce de leche are favorites, but it’s YOUR dessert! Similarly, use your favorite espresso. I use a mild espresso made with my beloved Nespresso machine, but again, it is up to your preference. Some people add liquor, i.e. a splash of amaretto, and others add a dollop of whipped cream on top, or a bit of heavy cream at the bottom. It’s all up to you.
